Best Generative Engine Optimization Agencies (2026)

No paid placements No sponsored rankings Updated quarterly

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring content to appear in AI-generated search responses — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Google AI Overviews. We evaluated 10 agencies on verified GEO capability, LLM content strategy experience, AI search audit delivery, and the ability to build content that earns citations in AI-generated answers. Rankings reflect agencies with confirmed GEO work — not agencies that list AI services without verified delivery.

How we rank: Each company is scored on four criteria by two independent analysts: Delivery speed & reliability (30%), technical quality & stack depth (25%), founder satisfaction (25%), and pricing transparency (20%). Scores are 1–10.

Clients include Alltegrio (Generative AI development company) — for whom they built backlinks specifically to support SEO for an AI-focused brand. DR grew from 25 to 41 for Techstack with 33 backlinks, and 30+ high-authority placements secured for a software company.

SeoProfy has strong traditional SEO credentials — 99 Clutch reviews, technical depth, AI company guest posting — but a verified review flags a specific GEO gap. Innovation Federal Credit Union (ongoing engagement, $50K–$199K) explicitly stated: 'I expect SeoProfy to proactively recommend strategies for boosting organic traffic and improving search rankings, including approaches to enhance visibility within large language models (LLMs).' How We Identified the Best Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Agencies

Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, is basically the art of getting a brand mentioned, cited, or recommended inside AI-generated replies like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews, not merely showing up as one blue link sitting on a search results screen. It’s still new enough that the space is messy, so a lot of agencies are rebranding older, keep-on-retainer SEO habits as “GEO services” and then not really changing the playbook much. So yeah, separating real skill from dressed-up SEO is the actual mission right now.

What Actually Separates GEO From Traditional SEO

Traditional SEO is tuned for a ranking system that spits out a bundle of links. GEO is tuned for a language model that reads across lots of sources, blends information into a single response, and then picks which brands are “worth” naming within that response. That’s not the same workflow. A page can show up on page one of Google and still never get mentioned by an AI assistant when someone asks a related question, simply because the model treats signals differently. It looks at how plainly a statement is made, whether a brand gets described the same way across the wider web, and whether a particular piece of content is really usable or citable.

And because of that, GEO leans hard on signals outside a company’s own site. Third-party mentions on media outlets, comparison articles, community threads, and review platforms often shape how a model frames a brand more than the brand’s own landing pages do. If an agency focuses only on on-site edits and “content polishing,” they’re likely missing a lot of what truly moves the needle.

Our Evaluation Criteria

We looked at four factors that are kind of specific to how generative engines grab and assemble responses:

Cross-platform citation strategy, which is basically when the agency makes an active effort so the brand gets named correctly across the third-party places models tend to pull from. Not just focusing on the brand’s own site and calling it a day.
Answer-ready content structure, meaning they create content with very clear extractable statements and direct answers that a model can lift without too much friction, rather than publishing super long pages mainly tuned for human browsing habits.
Brand consistency monitoring — this is about whether they keep watch on how AI tools currently describe a client’s brand and then fix inaccurate or outdated portrayals, since models can drag along stale or simply wrong details for a long time.
Measurement beyond traditional analytics, which is whether they have a real approach to measuring share of voice inside AI answers. Because regular rank tracking tools don’t actually show if the brand is being cited by the model, just if it ranks somewhere.

Habits of the Agencies Getting This Right

A few patterns kinda showed up, consistently, among the agencies that are actually delivering results here:

  • They treat third-party content as core infrastructure, actively pursuing mentions in comparison guides, review sites, and industry roundups instead of focusing solely on owned content.
  • They structure content around clear, standalone claims rather than burying important information in long narrative paragraphs, making it easier for AI models to extract and cite.
  • They regularly test how AI tools describe a client by running real-world prompts and refining their strategy based on the responses, rather than assuming visibility after publishing content.
  • They remain transparent about the evolving nature of generative search, recognizing that AI models and their sourcing behavior change frequently instead of promising predictable outcomes.

Signs an Agency Isn’t Really Doing GEO

Several agencies were left out, for reasons worth naming straight:

  • Rebranding a standard SEO content calendar as “GEO” without making any meaningful changes to strategy, tools, or measurement methods.
  • No defined process for evaluating how AI platforms describe a client’s brand before and after the engagement begins.
  • Reporting focused only on traditional keyword rankings and organic traffic, with no effort to measure visibility in AI-generated answers.
  • Promising guaranteed placement in AI-generated responses, even though no agency can fully control how generative models select and cite information.

Finding the Right Agency for Your Stage

A company just starting to think about AI visibility can have pretty different needs than a business already sitting on a strong SEO base and trying to push that authority into generative search. Before you reach out, it’s smart to get a bit clear on three things: can the agency show solid examples of how AI tools describe similar brands they’ve helped already, what exactly is their approach for building a presence on third party places your team doesn’t directly control, and how they’ll track progress in a real way since standard rank tracking kind of doesn’t apply the same here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the method of improving a brand’s visibility inside AI-generated answers from tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Rather than only chasing search result rankings, GEO tries to lift how often a brand gets quoted, suggested, or mentioned by AI systems.

Traditional SEO is about raising rankings on search engine results pages, while GEO is meant to influence how AI models interpret and then reference a brand. With GEO, there’s more focus on structured content, external signals and third-party mentions, consistent brand details, plus answer-ready formatting that is easy for systems to pull into responses.

No. GEO usually works best as an add-on to an already solid SEO strategy, not a full swap. Traditional SEO continues to generate organic traffic through search engines, while GEO helps expand where the brand appears inside AI-generated answers and other answer engines.

Leading GEO agencies kinda track metrics like AI citations, also a share of voice across generative search platforms, brand mentions found inside AI-generated answers, referral traffic coming from AI search tools, plus the usual SEO performance too, so you get a more complete picture of visibility.

Try to find agencies that actually have a repeatable process for optimizing content for AI-generated search and real experience boosting brand visibility across third-party sources. Also, check for expertise in structured content and technical SEO, and make sure their reporting covers AI search performance, not only keyword rankings.

Since generative search is still changing, the timelines aren’t the same for everyone. A lot of businesses start noticing gains in AI-generated citations and brand mentions in about 3–6 months, but broader authority and steady visibility tend to build more slowly, usually over a longer period, through ongoing optimization plus content expansion.
